Medical Massage

Pressure of varying degrees are applied – some require deep (like an elbow going along the length of the back) and while some require heat with lighter pressure (like hot stones).

Medical Massage is a therapeutic massage that can include various massage protocols. The main purpose of medical massage is to treat health conditions that have been diagnosed by your doctor. The massage techniques are chosen based on the intended outcome and goal. The purpose is to resolve medical conditions, through massage therapy using a variety of modalities, focusing on the areas of the body related to the diagnosis.

Medical massage differs from that of a general massage, in that medical massage involves advanced technique and experience that allows Glenn to provide care focused on healing injuries, improving function, or increasing circulation. Medical massage will help reduce pain and stress, particularly for patients with cancer, chronic pain, sports injuries or patients in hospice.

“The pain my father was experiencing was to the point that he couldn’t take it anymore. I contacted Glenn on a Saturday night and three days later my father’s pain had decreased by fifty percent! Glenn took the care and time to listen to my father’s history and his everyday life to really give him the relief that has been much needed for YEARS.” -Natalie Y.

A global assessment of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs are taken into account, including individual and family goals, when implementing a clinical treatment plan.

Glenn will speak with and listen to
you about your health history to
determine how the massage will
best impact your overall health,
and which techniques to use.

Background: John’s 94 year old mother was in excruciating pain, became bed bound, lost her appetite, and put into hospice. He reached out to me November 2021 and asked for my opinion. I assessed her situation and determined that her scoliosis had caused her back and leg muscles to tighten. Using hot stones with moderate pressure on her back allowed her muscles to melt and soften. She then began walking and eating again, and most importantly lived her life with very little to no pain. She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family in May 2022.

After he was finished he asked me to try the stretches that I couldn’t do before. I did them! I could have sat in those stretches all day! Plus I had several more inches (inches!) of mobility in all directions. He made me realize my full potential.” – Katie G., new mom

Glenn also will work with your doctor, so he can best determine how to address your illness or injury. Your physician may even recommend a medical massage based on your condition. A medical massage session will be calming and peaceful, will assist in relieving your pain, bringing you great relaxation.

Targeting and focusing on a particular body region is what makes medical massage different from a full-body massage like Swedish.

Kinesiology tape or K-tape is used, when appropriate, for clients that need edema and pain management especially for post-surgical recovery.

“Glenn helped me one day post ACL
reconstruction. We focused on
lymphatic drainage and pain
management. The Reiki really helped with the pain and allowed me to have a sound night’s sleep. I am so appreciative of his work and highly recommend!” – Whitney P

“Glenn is wonderful! I had a lot of tightness in my pelvic area from pregnancy and labor. It was causing pain in the whole area and even my lower back for the last ten months! I would try to stretch it out, but I couldn’t hold the stretch for more than a few seconds before it was painful. Glenn asked me a lot of questions to pinpoint which muscles and ligaments were the culprits. He relaxed me immediately after lying on the table and was very sensitive to the problem spots. Once he found them, they were too sensitive to touch. He did a more holistic approach where he worked on all the areas AROUND the problem spot, THEN the spot was relaxed enough to work on it. After he was finished he asked me to try the stretches that I couldn’t do before. I didthem! I could have sat in those stretches all day! Plus I had several more inches (inches!) of mobility in all directions. He made me realize my full potential!” – Katie G., new mom

Only Physical Therapists specializing in pelvic disorders and some chiropractors are licensed to work compromised internal pelvic muscles.

“As a Medical Doctor practicing Functional Medicine, I wish I could send all my patients to Glenn. Sadly, I live in Southern California. I came up to San Francisco to handle my mom’s affairs after she passed away. My sleep had become disrupted. As Glenn put it, my neck felt like cartilage, instead of soft tissue. The hour of his massage was magical. My chiropractor even said my neck felt great for the first time, and that was a full week after Glenn’s massage. Glenn’s hot stone massage was deep and effective, though not the painful poking that too many of my “therapeutic” massages have been. Plus, Glenn’s healing energy is a gift from God, not something that can be taught or learned. Not only did I sleep deeply and peacefully that night, but I felt an extra strength and loving energy to meet the next few days. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Glenn’s healing gifts; I would go to him everyday if I could.” – P.Z., MD, MPH, Functional Medicine

Hot stone, or heat application, is used when appropriate. People who are suffering from Fibromyalgia aka Fibro can help with sleep, fewer trigger points, and decreased levels of substance P (a substance involved in transmitting pain signals) compared to individuals who just received a relaxing massage.

“What can I say except that when I saw Glenn’s reviews and credentials that I KNEW he was the right therapist for our situation. The pain my father was experiencing was to the point that he couldn’t take it anymore. I contacted Glenn on a Saturday night and three days later my father’s pain had decreased by fifty percent! Glenn took the care and time to listen to my father’s history and his everyday life to really give him the relief that has been much needed for YEARS. Don’t hesitate, Glenn’s approach to massage, Reiki, and general overall well being is GREAT.” -Natalie Y.

When performed by a trained therapist, a hot stone massage is generally safe. There are some circumstances where it should be avoided. Consult with your doctor or primary care provider before getting a massage if you have:
